Yapı Kredi Technology- Our History

1944 - "Yapı Kredi", the first private bank of Türkiye, was established.

Attracting public attention with this new advertising approach, Yapı Kredi was opened on Saturday, the 9th of September 1944, the date marked on calendars as Izmir's Liberation Day, in Bahçekapı, at Vakıf Han, where the Local Goods Market of Sümerbank was previously located. Another innovative feature introduced to the banking sector in Türkiye with the opening of YKB was the design of branch buildings, which differed from traditional bank architecture, as they were spacious, clean, and well-lit, with no stairs and an open interior visible from the outside. The architect who introduced these innovations to bank architecture in Türkiye was Muhtar Oral.
